Calgary: Canadian experts say that people who sit in one place for hours a day and avoid walking or physical exertion have a higher risk of stroke than others.

The study, published in the latest issue of the research journal Stroke, was based on a public health survey conducted in Canada from 2000 to 2012.

 

Dr. Ryde Jondy of the University of Calgary, Alberta, and his colleagues searched the Canadian government's medical database to gather more information about the future health of the 143,180 healthy people in the survey. This additional information covers the end of 2017.

 

The study also found that people who were more relaxed or accustomed to sitting for long periods of time reading books, watching TV, working on a computer or spending time on a computer / tablet also had a higher risk of stroke.

 

People who sat in one place for less than four hours a day had the lowest risk of stroke, but as the duration increased, so did the risk of stroke.

 

The most severe risk of stroke was seen in the most lazy and relaxed people.

 

The risk of stroke was four times higher in those who sat continuously for eight hours or more a day than in those who sat for less than four hours a day!

 

Not only that, but such relaxed people can have a stroke under the age of 60.
